Drinking green tea can boost your metabolism and help you lose weight. All
tea contains catechins, but green tea, which undergoes less processing than
black and oolong tea, contains more. In one of numerous studies demonstrating
the fat-burning properties of green tea, men who included green tea in their
diets lost nearly twice as much as men who drank green tea. Kevin Maki, who led
the study reported in 2009 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, said
the men who drank green tea containing 660 mg of catechins also experienced
greater reductions in their waist sizes than the men who drank black tea
containing 22 mg of catechins.
Forget
the latest diet and exercise fads. According to recent hype, it seems losing
those excess pounds could be as easy as sitting back and drinking tea all day.
It sounds like the perfect solution for a nation that already has a healthy
relationship with the teapot!
Unfortunately though our usual cuppa is not
going to do the trick and we need to turn to more exotic leaves in order to get
the benefits.
Boost Metabolism
It
is claimed that drinking green tea boosts metabolism, burns calories and boots
energy. As well as claiming to improve
metabolism, marketing materials suggest it will also reduce blood fat and
cholesterol, reduce bloatedness, detox the body and suppress your
appetite. It is also
thought that green tea contains properties that will block fat absorption into
the body.
For a small cuppa, these are big promises!!
But can
having a brew really help you lose weight?
It sounds too good to be true but accordingly to most claims it
really is that simple, to enjoy drinking green tea and lose weight. There is
also scientific evidence to confirm that slimming teas actually work to shift
those pounds.
Calorie Counting
Even without the added
benefits listed above, weight loss benefits could also be attributed down to
the calorie savings made by switching from a milky, sugary cup of your usual
tea to a calorie-free cup of green tea.
A standard mug of tea with semi-skimmed milk and 1tsp sugar contains 38
calories. Therefore, four cups a day
totals 152 calories, adding up to a massive 55,480 calories a year. By just switching your usual cup of tea to
green tea you will ultimately lose weight.
It would seem which ever way you look at it green tea is a serious aid
to weight loss.
